How it is delivered
Remote, or in person at Queensferry
The course runs in Google Classroom. Lessons, tasks, deadlines and marked work all sit there, so you can see what has been set and what has been handed in — whether your young person joins live sessions from home or in the room at the Queensferry academy.
- Join live sessions remotely on Google Meet, or in person at the Queensferry academy
- Recorded lessons to watch again
- Practical evidence filmed and uploaded
- Written work submitted through Classroom
Tell us on the call whether remote or in-person suits your young person better.
What they finish with
A Level 1 Certificate, and a portfolio to show for it
This is a VTCT-accredited qualification. Learners who complete the year receive the VTCT Level 1 Certificate in Hair & Beauty Skills, together with the portfolio of filmed practical work they have built.
The one year Certificate is the first step — learners have the opportunity to progress onto a two year Diploma, and many go on to take a further NVQ or VRQ qualification at the Queensferry campus.
Before you enrol
Is the course accredited?
Yes. This is the KINGS Level 1 Certificate in Hair & Beauty Skills, for learners in school years 10 and 11. Learners who complete the one year Certificate have the opportunity to progress onto a two year Diploma at the Queensferry campus.
Does my child need to be on camera?
No. They can keep the camera off and take part through the chat. Practical work is filmed and uploaded afterwards, so it is not live and it can be redone.
What if they miss a session?
Every live session is recorded and sits in Google Classroom. Nobody is asked to explain an absence before they can rejoin, though persistent absence is something we will call you about.
Can this replace school?
It is designed to sit alongside or within alternative provision, not to replace a full timetable. If your local authority or school is arranging provision, talk to them before enrolling.
What do we need at home?
If learning remotely: a device with a camera, an internet connection and somewhere to work. Everything else is in the kit we post out. Learners can also attend in person at the Queensferry academy instead — tell us on the call which suits your young person better.
What if we need to stop partway through?
Tell us. We will cancel the remaining Direct Debit collections in line with the refunds and cancellation policy. The kit is yours to keep.
